When I was in college, I visited a wolf park near Lafayette, Indiana. At one point, I stood with a group of people howling in an attempt too get the wolves started. Eventually they did, and we celebrated. Twenty-some years later, I heard my first wolf howl in the wild, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It was haunting.
