I spent the weekend in Marquette, the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, to attend the Fresh Coast Plein Air Art Festival. Plein air (or outdoor) painting takes special skills that I have not yet mastered. I seem to produce better paintings at home or in a studio setting.
A friend of mine was kind enough to let me stay at her place even though she was out of town. Much of the weekend was cloudy, but the sun came out one afternoon, making the color of her house just pop. I snapped a photo and painted it as soon as I got home.
