One of my sisters is a watercolor artist. She has been working her way through a book on composition (Mitchell Albala’s The Landscape Painter’s Workbook: Essential Studies in Shape, Composition, and Color), and invited me to try one of the exercises with her. The instructions (in my words) were to create a landscape from a collage of simple shapes of black, white, and a single shade of gray. I was surprised how much I liked the result!
“Winter Twilight”, 2024, 9 x 11 inch, collage of acrylic on paper.
